Decolonising Qur’anic Studies

Excellent video talking about the need to counter the neo-colonial foundations of Western-led study of Islam and the Qur’an in particular.

The most intriguing moment was when he identified the notion that the Qur’an and tafsir tradition etc was handled by Western scholars as merely an object of study rather than even contemplating their frameworks or underpinning foundational perspectives, which was a problem at the epistemic level. He called for a trans-modern approach (not a post modern approach).
