God-focussed or Self-focussed

sun and moon

“And He has subjected for you the night and day and the sun and moon, and the stars are subjected by His command. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason.” Qur’an (16:12)

When the God-focussed people observe phenomena, God’s integral role as its Master/Controller1 (in recognition of His mighty handiwork) is evidential-clear even via our man-made (finite) parameters of Science – to be confirmed (in either case) by revelation2 (which are His words about Himself to us).

When the Self-focussed people observe phenomena (impressed by the ‘might’ of their personal conjectures – and some possible angst), God’s apparent absence is presumed, assumed and “deduced” by implication – to be confirmed by what our man-made (finite) parameters of Science can ever possibly reveal about The Infinite via such interpretation.

“So exalted is He in whose hand is the realm of all things, and to Him you will be returned.” (Qur’an 36:83)

And – in terms of arguments – at the end of the day, God will “inform you of that wherein ye differ.” (Qur’an 5:48)

So while we debate God, science, our grand ideas; while we understand bit by bit the materiality of our material world and universes out there; while we live and devote ourselves to the duniya – the worldly – and grow old… ask yourself: how have you prepared for this great re-meeting by increasing your good deeds within what is left of your life before it’s too late? Something to ponder…

In fact, I find other religions very interesting and I enjoy tying to understand how and why different religious traditions think the way they do. However… (to be continued)

    MashaAllah, Arif. 🙂

  2. Awesome juxtaposition. Aptly shows that one can always come up with whatever he/she wants from the outset while looking at the same thing as others.

    • Jzk for your comment, bro 🙂 Yes, we all approach things from our points of view. This is relativity, right? But that would seem to reinforce a relativist position of/for truth, right? Wrong. (And I know you know that 😉 )

  3. Haha! I definitely do. 🙂 The Quran itself says that with it Allāh guides many and leads astray many others, but that doesn’t detract from its truthfulness in the least. Someone looking for misogyny in the Quran will find it, and so will another looking for scientific miracles. Of course, what you’re saying and I surely agree with is that not all of these often mutually exclusive, subjective stances would hold up to scrutiny when pitted against each other. But, even then people may plump for what satisfies them, however irrational it may seem to the rest of the world.
