Dialogue Poem Set 3.8: On LoveRobe Turquoise

Robe Turquoise continued:

(To my spouse – for spouses everywhere)

In Heaven, in Time Long Forgot

***

In heaven, in time long forgot

Was a soul that longed for bliss.

Like a new babe born, crying above –

For you dear Allah.

The eternity of Love, Peace and the Joy of Total Existence.

***

What a sentimental soul it was!

How it was split in twain1

Under Allah’s decree in days of old;

How it sought to

Search upon the earth for the other in days to come;

How in separation,

How restless and alone it will be –

So utterly dejected.

***

To what end? We appealed. To what end O Allah!

Must we be separated in turmoil as Chaos is to Cosmos,

When in unity we rest in heaven’s collective bliss?

***

But Allah is Eternal and Wise.

He knows what we do not2.

***

There is much good that will come of this union, God-Willing,

But life must be a struggle in order to

Understand, to appreciate, in order to comprehend the significance

Of life, of soul;

In order to draw out the greatness that resides within the both of you;

In order to realise how to apply

This knowledge upon the dominions of your lives, to the Purpose3:

Upon the worship of the sanctity of the One that is breath4 of life Who gave you.

***

And so, my love, you were born on

A winter’s day and I in spring in our different beginnings.

In our forgetfulness, we grew aware of a longing

That tugged at us – like lost child’s soul-despair for mother,

But greater!

A yearning – like the dry earth, crack-lipped,

Craves but tear-drop of water,

For that part of us that was missing –

In the expansive spaces, the darkened places,

For the One That is Enlightenment of the spark,

Greater than the IS of birth, of us, my love…

Yet greater!

***

See how we roamed

Across this great wide world

Like empty souls, adrift,

our tears, spent,

our days like years,

our years, an age.

***

A seeming eternity of loss.

***

Dear soul,

How can I confer to you

The sensation after infinity

Of our self-discovery?

***

Oh Love.

An exaltation. Ha!

One heart beat!

And complete awe.

An exhortation:

Alhamdu li Allah5.

1 Consider: “And among His signs are that He created for you from your selves mates that you may attain calm unto them and He placed between you affection and compassion. Surely in that are signs for a people who reflect.” [Noble Quran 30:21] and “He is the one who created you from a single soul and made from it its mate that he may attain calm unto her.” [Quran 7:189]. And Allah knows Best.

2 A reference to “And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: “Verily, I am going to place (mankind) generations after generations on earth.” They said: “Will You place therein those who will make mischief therein and shed blood, – while we glorify You with praises and thanks (Exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners) and sanctify You.” He (Allah) said: “I know that which you do not know.” (Qur’an 2:30)

3“And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone).” Qur’an (51:56)

4 “So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul (Ruh) which I created for him, then fall (you) [angels] down prostrating yourselves unto him.” (Qur’an 15:29)

5 Alhamdulillah (الحمد لله) is an Arabic phrase meaning “Praise to God” or “All praise belongs to God,”

    • Too kind Maryam, jazakallah khairan!
      But I know you know that the True ‘Wow’ – ‘True Greatness’ belongs to Allah alone, alhamdulillah. I say this so we remember to stay grounded. Whether things go good – or bad, qadar Allah. Thank you Maryam.
